History Of Ardnavaha

Originally built in 1812, Ardnavaha was the Rectory for the local Church of Ireland church. Services are still held every second and fourth Sunday at 10 am, and whatever your denomination, you will be most welcome if you wish to attend.

Ardnavaha was purchased in the 1920’s by a Colonel Robertson, who farmed the land and brought up his family there.

Colonel Robertson sold the house in the 1960’s to a German couple who initially used it as a holiday home. And subsequently converted it into a hotel. Many famous people stayed here including Henry Ford, Irish Prime Ministers and Hollywood celebrities. Indeed, Ardnavaha was also the chosen location for many smart weddings.

The hotel changed hands several times in the 1970’s and 80’s until the current owner purchased it, by which time the house were almost derelict. Over the past number of years it has been an on-going project to lovingly restore the house and the cottages around the courtyard.
